Jaguar's I-Pace proves its practicality by driving from London to Brussels on a single charge

Jaguar has put its pure electric I-Pace to the test by using only its electric motors to drive it 229 miles from London to Brussels.

However, rather than making the Channel crossing via train as 80 million other vehicles have since it opened, the I-Pace drove through the 50km service tunnel.

From there, the car journeyed from the Calais exit of the service tunnel which runs between the two train rail tunnels eastwards towards central Brussels – arriving at its destination with eight per cent battery charge remaining.

Far from being a smooth journey, the car had to be driven through motorways as well as rush-hour traffic – all in battery-sapping summer heat.

In total, the all-electric SUV covered 229 miles without having to stop for charge.

Vehicle integration manager for the Jaguar I-PACE Stephen Boulter said: “We know customers won’t compromise on everyday usability so we engineered our electric performance SUV to deliver outstanding real-world range.

“By driving the 229 miles (369km) from London to Brussels on a single charge – and arriving with plenty of range left – we’ve demonstrated how comfortably it deals with long-distance journeys.”

When not being pushed to the limits of its range, the I-Pace can be charged from 0-80 per cent in just over 10 hours via a conventional AC domestic wall box.
