McLaren might not have fully revealed its as-yet unnamed three-seat ‘hyper-GT’, but it has shown the finished article to special customers behind closed doors and secured 106 orders.

And today the Woking-based car manufacturer has revealed all those customers who put money down knowing they’d have to wait months, if not years, for their car, will be rewarded with a special sculpture.

Called a ‘Speed Form’ model, it hints at what we can expect from the design of the new car, which is codenamed BP23. The sculpture measures 400mm wide, 205mm deep and 80mm high, and weighs in at 3.6kg. McLaren says each piece took 100 hours to create, 30 of which involved expert hand-polishing, before a craftsman checked each finished product was up to scratch.

The cabin is carved into the slab to show the central driving position, flanked on each side by a passenger seat, inspired by McLaren Automotive’s first road car, the F1. The BP23 is considered the spiritual successor to that model.

Other details that appear to be confirmed by the sculpture include a central fin that runs from the back of the driver’s seat and buttresses either side. McLaren is remaining tight-lipped about what to expect from the BP23, so far releasing a few sketches that merely hint at its styling.

However, the company has confirmed it cost buyers £1.6 million plus local taxes, will have a petrol-electric powertrain and will be the firm’s fastest car yet with a top speed of 243mph.
