An immaculate 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 with a mere 6,000 miles on the clock will go under the hammer next month.

The classic fast Ford will be auctioned as part of Silverstone Auctions’ NEC Classic Motor Show Sale, and is tipped to sell for between £100,000 and £115,000.

Only 500 road-going versions of the car were built, in order to qualify the model for racing in the British and European Touring Car Championships. The car that’s set to be auctioned off is one of just 56 examples of the Sierra Cosworth RS500 that were painted white, adding to its exclusivity.

The 224bhp super saloon is in original condition, with the only work carried out on it having been a major service in 2014 that saw the engine belts, battery and fluids replaced.

The car was found in 2007 by dealer Joe Macari, who located it in a classic Ferrari collection in Germany. It was then sold to a private Ford collector, who kept it in climate-controlled storage ever since.

Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said: “Very few of us have ever come across one of these in such a well-preserved state with such low mileage.

“The Sierra Cosworth RS500 is truly the car of the moment among collectors, and this is the best example I’ve ever seen.”

A similar 1987 Sierra Cosworth RS500 with twice the mileage sold for £115,000 earlier this year. Auctioneers have claimed the £115,000 upper estimate for the 1988 is “conservative”.

The NEC Classic Motor Show Sale runs from November 11 to 12.
