Fire crews were called to the flats in Hurcott Road at 4.20pm on Friday.

The fire broke out in a flat on the seventh floor of the building.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said full time and and on-call fire engines from Kidderminster attended the scene immediately, supported by fire engines from Bromsgrove, Worcester, and West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service.

West Mercia Police and West Midlands Ambulance were also in attendance.

The fire was confined to the flat in which it started and did not spread elsewhere in the building. It was extinguished within an hour of being reported, using hose reel jets and breathing apparatus.

Around 10 residents were evacuated as a precaution and are being looked after by the local authority.

Fire officers will carry out an investigation into the cause of the fire.
