Body recovered from river named as Kidderminster man

A body recovered from the River Severn has been formally identified as a man from Kidderminster.

Police recovered the body of Steven Downing from the river near to Quay Street, Worcester on Wednesday at about 3pm.

Mr Downing went missing on Sunday evening and police appealed for anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

He was last seen on a CCTV camera exiting Worcester Shrub Hill station at around 8.15pm on Sunday.

Officers investigating would like to hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Downing throughout the evening and in particular after he left Shrub Hill train station.

Detective Sergeant Ollie Moore said: "Sadly on Wednesday officers recovered the body of missing Steven Downing from the River Severn, in Worcester.

"We are trying to piece together Steven's movements on Sunday evening and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard from him during the evening, in particular after he left Shrub Hill station at around 8.15pm."
