A man has died after being hit by a van near West Midland Safari Park.

Police were called to the A456, near Bewdley, at around 4.50am on Monday following the crash.

The man was hit by a Mercedes Sprinter van on Kidderminster Road.

Medics battled to save him but he died at the scene.

The busy route was closed between Bewdley and Sutton Park Road in Kidderminster while the emergency services worked at the scene.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Police were called to the incident at approximately 4:50am today to reports that one vehicle, a white Mercedes Sprinter panel van, had been involved in a collision with a male pedestrian who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Any witnesses to the collision that haven’t yet spoken to officers are asked to call 101, quoting incident number 51s of 29/01/2018."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found the man in a very serious condition with CPR being carried out.

“The man was moved to the back of an ambulance where ambulance crews and the doctor worked on him.

“Sadly, despite all efforts, it was not possible to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the MERIT Trauma Doctor and Critical Care Paramedic were sent to the scene.
