Paul Mazs, 54, died after he was involved in a collision with the vehicle on Tettenhall Road near the Newbridge pub at around 10.20pm on Sunday October 13.

Police officers and an off-duty ambulance crew performed CPR on Mr Mazs, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, near the junction of the A41 and Crowther Road.

Opening an inquest into Mr Mazs' death at Black Country Coroners Court on Thursday, senior coroner Zafar Siddique said that Mr Mazs lived in Newbridge Crescent and had worked as a design engineer.

Mr Siddique said: "Mr Mazs was crossing Newhampton Road West at the junction with Tettenhall Road at around 10.20pm.

"He was involved in a collision with a black Land Rover Freelander and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and provided an initial account to police, who are still conducting further enquiries."

Mr Mazs' cause of death was given as traumatic head, chest and pelvic injuries.

In a tribute released by West Midlands Police after his death, Mr Mazs' family said "will be missed by all his family", adding that they will "love and miss you always".

The A41 Tettenhall Road was closed for a number of hours so collision investigators could examine the scene.

Mr Siddique adjourned the inquest hearing for police to continue their enquiries and offered his condolences to the family of Mr Mazs, who were not present at the hearing.

A pre-inquest hearing is due to take place on December 17.

He added: "There are still interviews to take place with the driver and the police seek other witnesses.

"A pre-inquest hearing will take place for an update from police about where they are with their investigation."
