Driver airlifted to hospital after crash involving ambulance and bus
A woman has been airlifted to hospital following a crash involving an ambulance, a bus and a car.
The crash happened this morning on the A41 Tettenhall Road, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, just before 9am.
The ambulance had been going to reports of a critically ill patient when it was collided with the driver’s side of a Nissan Micra at the junction of Newbridge Crescent.
The car was pushed into a stationary bus on the opposite side of the road, across from Linden house functions rooms. All three vehicles were damaged.
After the incident the busy road was closed. All vehicles had been cleared by 11.15am.
In all five people sustained injuries, including three paramedics.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “The 35-year-old woman in the car had to be extricated. She was immobilised and given pain relief before being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham suffering from chest and ankle pain.
“The bus driver, a 49-year-old man, was complaining of neck pain and was immobilised before being taken to New Cross Hospital.
“The three crew on the ambulance were also taken to New Cross Hospital as a precaution.”
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police, said: "A police car was in the area and was driving past and saw what had happened.
"The crash had caused an obstruction and the road was closed at its junction with New Hampton Road West."
