Hannah Fairley, 12, along with her younger sisters Megan, 11, and Sophie, eight, set themselves a challenge of running 100km during the month of May to raise much-needed funds for St John Ambulance.

Since May 1, the sisters have been taking to a one-km track at Barnthurst Lane Pitches, off Barnhurst Lane, in Pendeford, near their home, in an effort to complete the challenge.

On Bank Holiday Monday, the trio reached the 80km mark – with just 20km to go before the end of the month.

So far Hannah, who attends Aldersley High School, and Megan and Sophie, both pupils at Dovecotes Primary School, have raised more than £600 for St John Ambulance – with donations still rolling in in support of their fundraising challenge.

Their proud father, Martin Fairley, 39, said: “The girls all do first aid training with St John Ambulance – due to the coronavirus pademic they can’t get funds from events at the moment, so they asked the children to come up with fundraising ideas.

“So we came up with running 100km throughout May. We did not set a fundraising target at first as we didn’t think we would get anywhere near £100 – but we have now got more than £600.

“We normally do a lot of walking as a family but we are not normally into running – so it has been a challenge for the girls.

“We completed the 80km mark yesterday so it's now just 20 to go until they have completed the challenge.

“They are feeling really great about how much money they have raised, because they didn’t think they’d raise that much. I am really proud of what they have achieved.”
