Firefighters have tackled a blaze at an industrial unit near Wolverhampton.

Crews from both Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Fire Service were called to the fire off Valiant Way, in Pendeford, at around 11.30am today.

The fire, near Innovation Drive, was out at around 12.30pm but crews remained at the scene to carry out checks.

Staffordshire crews from Codsall and Cannock were joined at the scene by West Midlands crews from Wolverhampton, Willenhall, Tettenhall and Fallings Park stations.

A spokesman from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at around 11.30am reporting an industrial fire on Valiant Way, in Pendeford.

"The fire is out now but they are still on site using breathing apparatus.

"Crews remain at the scene to carry out investigations and safety checks. Our business support team have been alerted and will be on hand to support."

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman added: "We received a call at 11.30am to a fire in Valiant Way, in Pendeford. We sent four crews to the scene from Wolverhampton, Willenhall, Tettenhall and Fallings Park stations, a total of 20 firefighters.

"At around 12.20pm the fire had been extinguished and crews were liaising with site staff about the ventilation procedure. At 12:45pm crews were carrying out temperature checks in the compartment and surrounding rooms.

"Further investigations are being carried out. By 1.35pm the incident had been scaled back and two of our crews were released."
