Two-bedroom apartments plan for large house

The two-storey semi-detached property – 110 Newhampton Road West, Whitmore Reans – is currently split into two units, each containing five bedrooms.

Originally, the building was a small semi-detached house which was extended in 2009 and then converted into a HMO.

A statement from Birmingham-based Bharya Design and Build Consultancy, acting on behalf of the applicant, said: “The proposal is to convert the existing HMO into four single-storey apartments for use as rental properties. Each apartment will have two bedrooms, an open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room, and a separate bathroom.

“Located on the corner of Riches Street, the property already has a large car parking area at the rear. There will be no exterior changes to the property, other than to move the entrances to apartments one and two on the ground floor in order to accommodate interior alterations.

“All of the internal work has been planned to comply with Lifetime Home Standards in as far as is practicable, with the main bathrooms all meeting the standard. The bedrooms and living areas have been designed around exsting openings to allow natural light in.

“This development will increase trade to the local shops and amenities as well as providing a feeling of greater public safety and civic stability to the area, brought about by perceived ownership of the streets. It also provides new dwellings that are close to the city centre and main bus routes. This is a highly sustainable location where a high-density development should be encouraged.

“We consider this proposal to be an attractive quality scheme that will enhance the character and development of the local area. In summary, it contributes to the regeneration and redevelopment of the site and provides a more efficient use of land,” added the statement.

Planners will make a decision on the application in the near future.
