Shaw Road Household Waste and Recycling Centre will open seven days a week in a trial from May

The household waste recycling centres at Shaw Road in Bushbury and Anchor Lane in Lanesfield will be opening from Monday to Sunday as part of a trial to help improve recycling rates.

Previously both sites closed for two days a week.

The news comes after city MP Stuart Anderson said he is receiving complaints from residents over “unacceptable” conditions of some litter-strewn neighbourhoods.

Anchor Lane will now be open from 10am to 5pm from Monday to Wednesday, 10am to 7pm on Thursdays, 10am to 6pm on Fridays and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

And Shaw Road will be open from 10am to 5pm on Mondays and Thursdays, 10am to 6pm on Tuesdays, 10am to 7pm on Wednesdays, 10am to 5pm on Thursdays, 10am to 5pm on Fridays and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

It is not yet known how long the trial will last.

Wolverhampton Council leader Ian Brookfield, said: “We gave a commitment to provide seven day opening of our tips when we began our waste transformation journey in 2018.

"Tips are well used in the city, and residents have told us for some time that they want them to be open on more days. Today we’re able to deliver exactly what people want as part of a trial to help boost the city’s recycling and re-use rates.

“We must keep encouraging people to dispose of items responsibly and continue to recycle.

“Our tips will be open seven days a week, giving convenience and ease for thousands of people across Wolverhampton. All of which feeds into our dedicated work around climate change and the council’s commitment to tackle this important global issue.”

The council revealed in the summer how fly-tipping has fallen dramatically since it launched its 'Shop a tipper' campaign.

Reports dropped from 1,045 to 519 in May 2019 compared to 2018.

The city council has also discussed creating a super tip in place of the two existing sites in the past.
