Maximus needs urgent treatment and Stray Cat Rescue Team West Midlands has launched an appeal to raise cash

Stray Cat Rescue Team West Midlands, which is based in Wolverhampton and Birmingham, is calling for help from residents in the Black Country and Staffordshire to get treatment for Maximus.

Maximus, who has been a stray for at least 10 years, is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) positive, has a number of infections and his claws are curling under into his paw, causing him huge discomfort.

He has been receiving treatment at White Cross Vets, in Wolverhampton, but the bill is increasing as Maximus is treated with daily fluids, IV antibiotics, sedation and bloods taken daily.

Posts about Maximus on Stay Cat Rescue Team West Midlands' Facebook page have been shared hundreds of times – and have even reached as far as Texas.

Lucy Strickland, who set up Stray Cat Rescue Team West Midlands in August 2018, said: "Maximus was ignored for many years, too many people thought they were doing enough by feeding him and walking on by, but sometimes, these strays need so much more.

"Please don't turn your back on any animal who needs your help, you may be their last chance of survival. There are lots of rescues who will help, it is vital you don't give up until help arrives.

Maximus the cat

"We have cutting edge vets working mainly on Maximus. The nurses and staff have all been incredible. We are sourcing an American drug to try and help him.

"All our fundraising will be going on him, if any is left over, it will be used on all future cats at White Cross on our account."

People can donate by visiting Stray Cat Rescue Team's PayPal account, by visiting www.paypal.me/straycatrescueteamwm. They can also call White Cross Vets to donate on 01902 599880.
