The man was on the roof of a building in Market Street at around 3am on Sunday.

The road was cordoned off from its junctions with Bilston Street, by the police station, down to Queen Street.

The man was talked down by a trained negotiator just before 7am and was taken to hospital for assessment.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to reports of a man threatening to jump from a roof in Market Street, Wolverhampton, at around 3am this morning.

"A trained negotiator was called and the man came down just before 7am.

"He has been taken to hospital for assessment."

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, passed through the area and saw police cars and an ambulance parked up in Market Street.

They said: "I was walking past this morning at around 5.45am on my way to work and saw the street was cordoned off at both ends.

"There was an ambulance, three or four police cars."
