The fire broke out at a semi-detached house in Deans Road, Eastfield, Wolverhampton, in the early hours of Sunday killing a woman and man – said by neighbours to be a mother, in her 60s and son, in his 30s

The husband and family dog survived the blaze.

Today neighbours were reeling over the tragedy.

Rhys Brockhouse was staying with his sister just over the street and spoke of his shock at the fire.

The 23-year-old said: “I saw the flames coming out of the house. I was in total shock. It was horrendous.

"I feel so sorry for the family. I saw the man, who survived, run down the roof.

"And I thought the lady and her son had got out too but then I heard they hadn’t.

“It’s unthinkable. At first the fire was in just one window but then there was this massive bang and the whole house lit up. Just horrifying. Everything happened so quick.”

Flowers and tributes have been left at the scene – with one reading: “RIP our lovely sister and nephew Jag.”

West Midlands Fire Service is still working to determine the cause of the fire.
