Mother Amy Hooper said the baby grow outfits and nappies she took with her to hospital were useless as her newborn son was too large.

Amy, from Linthouse Lane in Wolverhampton, said nurses at New Cross said her son was one of the biggest new arrivals so far this year at the hospital.

She said: “It was quite a shock when they told me how heavy he was. He’s a big lad. He’s not chubby, but he is long.”

Jacob was born at the hospital on January 26 at 6.11am to parents Amy and David Weaver and has already sprouted to 60cm in length.

Amy, 28, added: “It’s only like a month into the year, but babies are born everyday. The midwife said he was the biggest they had seen this year. I took a newborn outfit because I thought he was going to be small and he has gone straight into 0-3 clothing.

“Even the nappies didn’t fit him so the midwife had to ask around. He’s a bonnie lad – and he’s 11lbs 9oz now, he’s grown.”
