Bosses said they had been left with 'no choice' but to close as the business, which had been in administration for the last few months, had become 'increasingly unsustainable'.

Staff said they only found out they had lost their jobs when they saw the announcement the venue was closing on Facebook, while children's Christmas and birthday parties have been cancelled at short notice.

Parents have also been left angered after shelling out for passes running into next year.

Oxygen Freejumping, which runs Air Space, has promised to refund all future bookings.

Worker Joe Hall said: "On the behalf of the staff here at Air Space, we are all gutted to be finding out over Facebook that we have lost our jobs and much more important the connection we had with a lot of customers and children which will we all cherish."

Father-of-three Greg Gdowski, 41, of Deans Road, Wolverhampton, had booked his daughter's birthday party at Air Space for December 27.

He also paid £105 for a pass for his children until February.

He said: "I was completely unaware there was something going on. Things like that don't happen overnight.

"Higher management should be aware and stop taking bookings, especially for birthday parties which are difficult to replace at short notice."

Visitors to the Air Space website are now met with a message informing of its closure.

Air Space launched at Bentley Bridge in 2015 and has proved a hit with families.

But its popularity has not stopped the venture from running into trouble.

The statement says: "We regret to inform consumers that we have been forced to close our Wolverhampton site.

"The site had been operating while in administration for several months, however unfortunately our trading has become increasingly unsustainable and we have no choice but to close.

"We will refund all future bookings and customers will shortly be contacted by our customer service team. Alternatively you can contact customer services on 0333 2000 349.

"This has been a very difficult decision as we have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Wolverhampton community, and we leave behind an excellent team of leisure professionals."

The announcement was met with a raft of complaints on Facebook from families who had bookings and passes.

Jean Slater said: "Not surprised we were encouraged to take on a pass for two months instead of our usual 30 day pass. Four grandchildren with two months pass as a Christmas present makes me feel really cheated and the children will be gutted."
