A supplement of the Express & Star, dating back to April 25, 1932, shows Wolverhampton Wanderers being complimented after their Division One status was regained after 26 years.

Tim Beddow, 59, from Warley, said: "I swapped some speedway items for it with a friend who is sadly no longer with us.

"He used to run a shop at Monmore Green, actually.

"I don't support the Wolves, I support the Blues – Birmingham City FC. Wolves isn't my team so it wasn't an issue putting it up for sale all.

"There was a bundle of things I swapped for and that was on of the things with it. I thought 'Give it to someone who is going to enjoy it' and I thought it was time for it to go and I'm sure a lot of Wolves fans would like it.

"It'll be interesting to see what it goes for in the end.

"It's definitely a historical piece of football memorabilia. I wouldn't have thought many of them have survived – the auctioneers said they have seen them in the past but not in that condition.

"Unfortunately paper doesn't last that well – although it's more than 80 years old."

Wolves, who were founding members of the European Football League, achieved promotion to the league in 1932 and remained there until 1965.

Adverts on the side of the supplement compliment the Wolves on their accomplishment.

The four-page piece, which has been put up for sale by Midlands Sport Auctions, is estimated to fetch £30 and is lot 305.

The piece echoes the supplement the Express & Star produced when Wolves finished top of the league last season.

Midland Sports Auction said: "This a very large and rare supplement issued by the Express & Star to mark Wolves' promotion in 1932. Great publication full of information on the Wolves even all the adverts congratulate Wolves on winning promotion.

"The supplement is folded and there are are some tears on the folds but this is the best condition one we have seen given the age and how large it is."
