It was warm and there was not a drop of water coming from the clouds above.

But hundreds of children got in to the spirit of singing in the rain.

The musical performance took place in Queen Square in Wolverhampton on Tuesday.

In total, around 300 children from 12 primary and special schools took part in the concert, inspired by the 1952 film Singn' In the Rain starring Gene Kelly.

They were joined by a band from Wolverhampton Music Service, and led by Paul Wilcox from Wolverhampton Music Education Hub.

It marked the culmination of a six-month project by the music service and the music education hub.

Teachers took part in regular workshops put on by the music service where they learnt songs, which they passed on to their pupils.

Councillor Lynne Moran, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Music is an important part of a young person's education, and our Music Service provides quality teaching for children and young people across Wolverhampton.

“This was an excellent opportunity for the pupils to show off their talents."

Wolverhampton Music Service provides tuition and musical opportunities for youngsters from schools across the city, including the chance to perform with its flagship groups, Wolverhampton Youth Orchestra and Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra.
