Major celebration in Wolverhampton planned after Wolves clinch the Championship title
Prepare to party! Wolves players will be celebrating with fans after clinching the Championship title.
A major celebration is planned for the city on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7, organised by the club and the council.
The event will give staff and players at the club the opportunity to thank supporters and show off the Sky Bet Championship trophy.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s table-topping team won the Championship with a 4-0 thrashing of Bolton on Saturday.
Almost 5,000 fans joined them in sun-kissed Lancashire for another day of celebration, a week after the team won promotion to the Premier League.
Council chiefs have confirmed an event will be held to mark Wolves’ achievements, with details yet to be specified. Cabinet member Milkinder Jaspal called for open-top bus tour and a civic reception.
He said: “It has been a brilliant season for Wolves and they have really created a feel-good factor in the city.”
Keith Ireland, the council’s managing director, said: “It is brilliant that Wolves will be back playing in the promised land of the Premier League once again next season, and are going up as champions.
“This is great news not only for the club and their incredible fans, but for the City of Wolverhampton as a whole, and we are looking forward to celebrating their fantastic achievements.”
Councillor Jaspal added: “When I was mayor the last time they went up I hosted a civic reception and I think the current deputy mayor should do that again.
“We also need to open the city up for an open-top bus tour to give Wolves supporters the chance to celebrate this achievement. I would very much call on the council to open the city up for the fans.”
