Blue Turner, aged four, of Willenhall, celebrates his first leap year birthday

The four-year-old is making the most of his leap year birth date which has so far included a big birthday party with his friends held last weekend, plus a family visit to Legoland Discovery Centre, in Manchester.

His dad Paul, 40, explains how after two days in labour at New Cross Hospital his wife Rachel, 38, gave birth right on the last day of the month at 8.55pm.

"I recall that it was a nice surprise for us that Blue was born on February 29 as we thought he might arrive the following morning.

"It was an extra special moment because I proposed to my wife Rachael shortly after he was born. I dressed him in an outfit with the words, 'Will you marry me?' on the front which I had secretly ordered.

Special

"When Rachael saw it, she did say 'yes'. I think for her, it was a blur as there was so much going on with the new baby and a proposal.

"Blue has been celebrating all this week. He knows it's a special birthday, but maybe not the significance of it being a leap year. He's absolutely lapping it up.

"He's had a party with his friends last Saturday and we're due to take him to Legoland because he loves Lego.

"He's also a big fan of the super heroes and I suspect he'll be treated to lots of Marvel toys as a result by his grandparents

Blue, of Gurnard Close, Coppice Farm, who is is due to start school in the autumn, also has a baby sister Harlee-Sue, aged seven months, and big brother Alfie Naylor, aged 11.
