Walsall Council planners have given the the green light for the project to be carried out at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, based in Blackwood Road, in Streetly.

The front extension will bring about a host of benefits for the school, including a new SEN/sensory room, meeting space, reception office and an extension to the head teacher’s office.

Representatives for the school said the improvements will increase security at the entrance to the building.

They also said the extension will not affect the playing areas or the staff and visitor car park when it is completed.

Agents Wood Goldstraw and Yorath said: “The school is located adjacent to the Blackwood Health Centre and Streetly Community Library.

Aesthetic

“The area is generally single-storey and two-storey residential property, with the exception of the shop frontages to Blackwood Road, the library and health centre adjacent to the site. There is no defined aesthetic for the area.

“The extension is to be located at the front of the school. All recreation and parking areas will remain unaffected by the proposal.

“The proposal includes a single storey extension to the front of the school and will comprise of a new secure lobby, SEN/Group room, meeting room, Reception office and extension to the head teacher’s office.

“Access and security will be improved with the addition of the new secure lobby and secure waiting area.”

Planners also granted permission for an extension to be built at Delves Infant School in Botany Road.

This will enable the school to extend its canteen to provide more seating, as well as creating a new toilet area and an additional storage room.
