Fire that tore through disused Brownhills pub being treated as arson

A fire which ripped through a disused Black Country pub is being treated as arson.

West Midlands Fire Service were called to the site of the Anchor Pub on Chester Road in Brownhills at 11.30am on Monday after reports of a blaze on the site of the disused pub.

Firefighters from Bloxwich and Walsall fire stations, alongside a Staffordshire crew from Lichfield, were in attendance, with 10 firefighters in total working to tackle the blaze, which started in an extension at the rear of the former pub.

Six crew members wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire and confirmed the fire was out at 12.34pm.

Both fire crews and officers from West Midlands Police checked the property and said they believed the fire had been been started deliberately.
