Large fire at Brownhills beauty spot

Smoke has drifted over roads in Brownhills as firefighters tackle a grass fire.

An area that covers 1,000 sq ft of grassland is on fire off Watling Street.

One crew and five firefighters are tackling the blaze, which is believed to be on Brownhills Common.

Spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service, Matthew Smith, said: "We were called at 1.25pm, from a 999 call, to Watling Street, Brownhills.

"One crew from Aldridge, with five fire fighters are tackling a fire on grassland that is 1,000 sq ft in size.

"Good progress is being made and crews are expecting to leave by 4pm."
