The Q Lounge and Old Hall Snooker Club in Revival Street in Bloxwich were closed in June by MFA Bowl.

Bowling firm MFA Bowl ran an alley connected to the two, but closed that as well a month later.

Now retired builder Bernard Cavill, a former customer of the Q Lounge, has stepped in to reopen the bar and snooker hall.

And he said it has returned 'with a bang', with scores of members already signed up despite it being open for less than a week.

Mr Cavill, 72, said: "We used to go into Q Lounge for a drink and a lot of people in Bloxwich used to do the same.

"When it closed people were upset because they had nowhere to go for their age group.

"It got run down and then closed down. So we took it over and have taken a new lease out.

"It's been refurbished and it opened last weekend.

"A lot of the old regulars have come back – and we've already got 80 members at the snooker hall.

"We expected it to be successful but thought it might take a couple of months to be built back up.

"But it's come back with a bang – people seem to have been waiting for it to open."

Mr Cavill, who used to run Cavill Homes, will run the two places with his son Lee.

The pair have also appointed a manager to oversee the venues day-to-day.

A makeover of both venues included the creation of a new ceiling, while the snooker hall has got four new tables.

Mr Cavill said the Q Lounge will be open from Thursday to Sunday from 7pm to midnight.

The snooker hall will open from 10am to 11pm, seven days a week.

Mr Cavill added: "It was such a shame when it closed down, it's a lovely site with the car park there as well.

"It's a nice set-up and great to have it back open again.

"We want to get the crowds coming back again but also attract new customers as well."

Live music will be put on at Q Lounge on Thursday and Saturday nights

The bowling alley is on the market for sale, priced at £800,000. It closed in July.

Old Hall Properties have the property up for sale and rent.

The alley used to be known as GT Leisure Bowl before it was taken over by MFA.
