Former Walsall and Aston Villa player Alan Deakin dies

Former Walsall FC and Aston Villa player Alan Deakin has died.

The Birmingham-born winger bagged 50 appearances with the Saddlers joining the club in 1969 and playing until 1972.

He had arrived at Walsall from the Villains where he had featured much more prominently racking up 270 matches in a decade from 1959 to 1969.

Walsall FC confirmed the 76-year-old had passed away whilst offering their condolences to his family.

They Tweeted: "Walsall Football Club are saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Alan Deakin.

"Alan joined the Saddlers in 1969 after leaving Aston Villa, playing 50 times for us before leaving in 1972.

"Our condolences go out to Alan's family and friends at this sad time."
