Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a house in Smithy Lane, in the Seighford area, shortly before 10am this morning.

A man was rescued from the house by a neighbour before crews arrived, after they were alerted by the smoke alarm.

The fire service has now issued a warning to residents to ensure they register their appliances and keep them maintained.

A spokesman from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 9.50am on Friday to Smithy Lane and crews from Stafford and Stone attended.

"They used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the fire – which started in the tumble dryer and they removed it from the property.

"We would urge all residents to register their appliances and keep them well maintained and cleaned, to avoid this type of fire happening."
