Lorry carrying boat gets stuck on bridge near Stafford

Villagers faced chaos as a lorry carrying a boat got stuck on a bridge this afternoon.

The entrance to Acton Trussell, near Stafford, via the bridge was blocked during much of today after the lorry got stuck.

Tractors were brought in to try and get the lorry moving.

Police were at the scene

It was an unusual sight for residents when they spotted the lorry, carrying the large boat, trapped on the bridge.

People were forced to head towards Penkridge to get out of the village with the bridge blocked.

Resident Rob Whitehouse said: "The lorry is stuck on the bridge and it has been causing chaos in the village for hours. A tractor is here trying to get it out."

South Staffordshire Police added: "No access in and out of Acton Trussell by the canal bridge on Mill lane. Boat run a ground on the bridge."
