Police flocked to Glover Street, just off Foregate Street, to tackle an illegal encampment.

The eviction, which was led by Stafford Borough Council, was backed by a High Court ruling.

Officers were on the scene to ensure the eviction took place peaceful.

Staffordshire Police advised members of the public to avoid the area until the eviction was completed.

A number of police resources were sent to the scene as the force initially expected 'some resistance' from the travellers.

Clive Hill, manager at HiQ Stafford Tyres and Autocare, said: "The police and ambulance services have dispersed.

"There was a traveller encampment at the end of Foregate Street that they were all trying to move on.

"The services were there for a good couple of hours."

Staffordshire Police tweeted a statement in response.
