A crew from Cannock was called to the scene in Westcroft, near Essington, to fight the blaze at around 11.15am.

They are currently damping down to make sure the fire does not re-ignite or spread.

Large amounts of smoke was given off as firefighters used hose reel jets on the heap.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue tweeted: "A crew from Cannock and the Cannock water tender are tackling a large muck heap fire in Westcroft, which is giving off a large quantity of smoke.

"Firefighters are currently damping down the fire using two hose reel jets and turning over the muck to extinguish the fire."
