Woman, 83, suffers 'significant' injuries as car driven by another resident reverses into Wombourne care home

An elderly woman has been left with 'significant' injuries after a resident at her Staffordshire care home crashed through the building's glass entrance in his car today.

The 83-year-old woman has been left with injuries to her legs and pelvis after a 85-year-old man accidentally reversed his car into Maywood care home on Planks Lane in Wombourne.

The driver lost control of his vehicle before hitting another car and crashing through the entrance of the home at around 11.20am.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We were called at 11.22am by West Midlands Ambulance Service to reports of an elderly resident in a car crashing into the glass entrance of a building.

"An 85-year-old man accidentally put the vehicle into reverse and was out of control before colliding with another car and a 83-year-old female pedestrian.

"She was taken to Russells Hall Hospital by land ambulance with leg and suspected pelvic injuries, the injuries are suspected to be significant.

"The driver and a female passenger were taken to the same hospital as a precaution.

"A crew from Wombourne Fire Station attended."

Staffordshire Police have been contacted for a comment.
