Man critical after being trapped in Rugeley lorry crash

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after the collision in Redbrook Lane, Rugeley, just after 9.10am today.

The crash involved a lorry and another vehicle at Hawkins Logistics, Staffordshire Police said.

Lucy Thompson, spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police, said: "Officers were called to a report of a man who sustained serious injuries following an incident at Hawkins Logistics on Redbrook Industrial Estate in Rugeley at around 9.18am this morning.

"The man is currently in critical but stable condition in hospital. The incident is now in the hands of the Health and Safety Executive."

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted saying: "#Lichfield, #Longton and #Stafford crews have been called to a collision on Rebrook Lane in Rugeley.

"The incident involves two vehicles including a lorry and one male casualty was trapped. He has now been rescued by firefighters. Ambulance are now in attendance. #RTC"

Firefighters administered CPR after freeing the trapped man.

Lauren Jeal, spokeswoman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The fire service was called to Redbrook Lane, Rugeley at 9.15am today to reports of a collision involving a lorry and another vehicle.

"Crews from Lichfield and Cannock attended and found one male casualty trapped and injured. Firefighters administered CPR and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Firefighters left the scene 10.30am."

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 9.13am to reports of an RTC on Redbrook Lane, Rugeley. Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care car attended.

"One patient, a man, was in a critical condition and received advanced trauma care on scene before being taken on blue lights to Royal Stoke University Hospital."

Hawkins Logistics has been asked to comment.
