The owner of a boat suffered facial burns when a build up of propane gas flashed as he tried to start the engine on a Rugeley canal.

Firefighters and paramedics were sent to the scene on the Trent and Mersey Canal near Rugeley after the incident.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted saying: "#Cannock & #Lichfield crews called to assist colleagues from @OFFICIALWMAS after owner of this boat on Trent & Mersey Canal near #Rugeley suffered facial burns when a build up of leaking propane gas flashed when he tried to start the engine. @CRTWestMidlands."

The incident happened on Thursday.
