Woman dies one day after being found with mystery injuries

A woman who was found seriously injured at the roadside in Cannock has died in hospital.

The woman, who was in her 50s and from the local area, was found with serious injuries in Belt Road, Hednesford, at around 3.40am on Saturday.

She was treated by an ambulance crew and transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she died in the early hours of Sunday.

Detectives are still unsure how the woman suffered her injuries and said they need to investigate further to understand what happened.

A spokesman from Staffordshire Police said: "She is not yet being named and detectives are still investigating the circumstances around her death which are not yet understood.

"Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything or has dash-cam or CCTV footage in the area to come forward."

Residents in the street have spoken of their shock following the woman's death.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I only heard about it online. It is such a shame.

"You don't expect things like that to happen so close to home."

Another neighbour said she saw the incident on social media, saying: "I saw that the woman had passed away. It is so sad.

"My thoughts are with her family at this time."

Another Belt Road resident said: "We didn't hear anything on Saturday morning.

"We heard through the news that she had passed away, but I didn't know the lady.

"It is such a shame for the family."
