Proudly flying the flag for Hednesford Park's future

The prestigious Green Flag is now flying proudly at the entrance to Hednesford Park.

The park is is one of six in Cannock that won the award, making Cannock Chase Council the top performing district council in the area.

The Council successfully obtained a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant of £2.2 million towards the delivery of improvements with an additional £1m being provided by the Council, Staffordshire Environmental Fund and St. Modwens. The park is maintained by Friends of Hednesford Park. Improvements included refurbishing the play area and skate park along with improving paths to make the park more accessible, refurbishment of the tennis courts and new trees being planted.

The award is earned based on being healthy, safe, secure, clean and well maintained along with sustainability, conservation, heritage, community involvement, marketing and management. Other parks that have won around the Cannock include Stile Cop Cemetery, Elmore Park in Rugeley, Ravenhill in Brereton, Castle Ring in Cannock Wood and Cannock Park. They were among 1,797 awards given out across the country and more than 40 in mid-Staffordshire and the Black Country.

Councillor Christine Mitchell, Portfolio Leader for Culture and Sport said “I am delighted that the flag pole has been erected and now fly’s the green flag with pride.

“It is recognition of the significant work that has taken place at Hednesford Park. It is an international award.”
