Luke Barnett, from Hednesford, died aged 19 in Ibiza

Luke Barnett, 19, from Hednesford, died on the party island in the early hours of Wednesday.

Reports suggest he was walking along the Vara de Rey street in San Antonio near the hotel he was staying in around 2.45am when he collapsed.

Paramedics fought to save his life but their attempts were unsuccessful.

It has been reported that his death is linked to a pre-existing health problem and not to any potential drink or drugs consumed on the popular tourist island.

Luke was on holiday at the party island to celebrate the 21st birthday of a friend.

Luke worked at Chase Golf Club and previously attended Blake Valley Technology College

Since his death was announced tributes have flooded in on social media for the ‘nicest guy’, who attended Blake Valley Technology College in Hednesford - now Staffordshire University Academy - and worked at Chase Golf Club.

Rowena Hillier, principal at SUA, said: “We are all really shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Luke. When he was a pupil here Luke was a valued member of the academy community. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”

Online, Jay Boxall, from Cannock, said: “Luke was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known and he will be missed by many.”

Tom Kinsella added: "A little man with a giant heart, rest in peace old friend, absolutely devastated."

Other tributes included one from Joshua Tolley, who said: “Rest in Peace Luke Barnett. Can’t believe you’re gone, such a nice young lad and a pleasure to grow up though school with you. All love to you and your family,” and Tammy Wilton who added: “RIP Luke Barnett taken away from us way to soon sadly missed but never forgotten.”

Luke’s friends have organised a get-together at the Samson Blewitt pub in Hednesford on Sunday, July 23, at 4pm. Organiser Harriet Bubalo said the aim was ‘to celebrate Luke Barnett and just how incredible he was’.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are in contact with the local authorities regarding the death of a British National in Ibiza. We are providing support and advice to the family at this difficult time.”

South Staffordshire Coroner's Court is expected to handle the inquest into Luke's death but no date has yet been set.
