Arson arrest after Eccleshall house fire

A suspected arsonist has been arrested after a house fire in Eccleshall.

The 47-year-old from Stafford remains in custody and a joint investigation has been launched after the incident on Newport Road.

No one was injured during the fire, which happened at 4.29pm yesterday.

Four crews from across Staffordshire were sent to the scene and firefighters had to use breathing apparatus.

Nobody was in the house at the time of the fire.

Officers from Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service will be carrying out the investigation.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "A joint investigation with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is currently underway and enquiries on-going.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 468 of January 17."
