Warning to walkers as blue green algae spotted in Cannock reservoir
Dog walkers have been urged to keep their pets on leads while walking around Calf Heath Reservoir in Cannock.
Reports have been made of blue green algae in the water at the reservoir.
Canal and River Trust West Midlands is warning people to be careful when they visit the site – and not let their dogs into the water.
A spokesman said: "We have a report of Blue Green algae at Calf Heath Reservoir in Cannock.
"Please keep your dogs on a lead and don't let them in the water.
"If they do come into contact with water please ensure you wash their paws/fur and you wash your hands."
Blue-green algae is made up of types of bacteria called cyanobacteria that are normally present in many lakes. This type of bacteria thrives in warm, nutrient-rich water and can be toxic.
