Family of Rob Spray reveal funeral plans
The funeral for Rob Spray, who died while on a trip with friends in Bulgaria, will take place next week.
Rob, who lived in Heath Hayes in Cannock, had travelled to Sofia to watch England play in the qualifiers for Euro 2020.
He was found in a "helpless condition" on the streets the morning of the match, and was taken to hospital.
Bulgarian authorities claimed he became aggressive, and took him to police custody.
But he died on the way.
His family have been calling for the Foreign Office to launch an investigation into his death.
The funeral for Rob, who was also a season ticket holder for West Bromwich Albion, will be held at Stafford Crematorium on November 14 at 11am.
The family have asked for no flowers, but instead donations which will go to the neonatal unit at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.
It came as a petition demanding the Foreign Office investigate Mr Spray's death reached 92,000 signatures.
Mr Spray had travelled to Sofia as part of a group of 11 friends including childhood friend Andrew McMath, who organised the trip for his own 30th birthday celebrations.
West Midlands MEP Anthea McIntyre this week said she will do “all she can” to get answers over his death.
She said: “A truly independent inquiry is needed to get right to the truth of what happened – not only before Rob went to hospital but after he was taken out of the hospital’s care in a police vehicle.
"I will be informing Bulgarian colleagues in the European Parliament about the family’s concerns and seeking their help in pursuing the truth behind this tragic case at all costs.”
