Firefighters battle deliberate woodland blaze in Cannock
Firefighters battled a blaze that stretched nearly three quarters the size of a football pitch at Shoal Hill Common.
The 43,000sq ft fire in the Cannock woodland, in the early hours of Friday morning, was believed to have been was started deliberately.
Crews from Cannock, Penkridge and Chase Terrace tackled the fire for around 10 hours.
They have since issued a warning against playing with fire as part of their Flames Aren't Games campaign.
Firefighters arrived shortly after 1.30am and used hoses and jets to extinguish the flames. The blaze was out by 11.15am.
A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service: "We would like to remind people against playing with fires."
Staffordshire Fire tweeted: 'Crews from Cannock, Chase Terrace and Penkridge are in attendance on Shoal Hill Common.
"The incident involves a fire in the forest approximately 30m by 100m. There is smoke from this incident sitting across Cannock."
