Man killed in Penkridge Bank Road crash named

A man who died after his car hit a tree on a route through Cannock Chase has been named by police.

Tom Williams, aged 30, from Penkridge, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The crash happened, in Penkridge Bank Road, at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

An investigation has been launched by Staffordshire Police.

Officers are appealing for witnesses who saw the light coloured Volkswagen Scirocco in the area.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Our thoughts are with Tom’s family at this sad and difficult time.

"Specialist officers are supporting his family and they have requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage or may have witnessed the vehicle the man was travelling in, a light coloured Scirocco, is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 972 of November 3."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The call said the car was upside down and there was damage to a tree.

"Unfortunately we confirmed the death of a man at the scene."
