Bomb squads are working to dispose of the large number of shells which were found on the site near Milestone Way in Chasetown.

Staffordshire Police are at the scene to oversee the controlled explosions which are expected to take all day.

Explosions started at 11am this morning and there will be intermittent road closures on the industrial road while the mortars are detonated.

Police said the area had been cordoned off as a precaution for public safety and advised people to stay away from the area while the incident is handled.

Over the last two years multiple unexploded devices have been found near the same site, which was previously occupied by ES Smith, which recovered war weapons.
