Angela Cartwright, aged 55, admitted one offence of theft by employee between June 6, 2019 and September 17, 2019 from McColl Ltd, in Stafford Road, in Huntingdon near Cannock.

Cannock Magistrates' Court heard that she stole £16,067 belonging to the business by helping herself to sums of £500 at a time.

Miss Sara Beddow, prosecuting, said: “The defendant was the manageress of the post office.

Bags

“When a review was carried out it was found that over a period of six to eight weeks she had been taking bags containing £500 to an amount totalling over £16,000.”

Cartwright, of Stafford Road, Huntingdon, at first gave a no plea indication at the hearing on Wednesday, before changing to a plea of guilty on the advice of Mr Osman Mahmood, defending.

Chairman of the bench Mr Robert Chumley-Roberts told her: “You have pleaded guilty to the offence. You are looking at a sentence with a starting point of a two-year term under the guidelines.

“Accordingly you will be sent to the crown court for sentencing at a date to be fixed.”

Cartwright was granted unconditional bail.
