Hundreds of runners take part in first Parkrun of year at Staffordshire beauty spot

They embarked on a single lap of 5km around the pool of water on Saturday, setting off at 10am near the Innovation Centre.

The course then took runners on a series of paths and trails around the reservoir before they finished near back where they started.

Statistics published by organisers said the average run time was 29 minutes and 40 seconds.

Freddie Penrose took the fastest time for the men with a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds.

Nivette Chester held the fastest time for the women crossing the line at 20 minutes and 31 seconds.

The run is taking place every Saturday starting at 10am.

While organisers recorded the fastest scores, they emphasise that the run is open to all abilities and ages.

Photographs showed streams of runners making their way along paths under cloudy skies.

Some runners posed for pictures while others brought along their dogs to take part.

A total of 44 clubs were represented in the event and the combined run time of all participants was six days, 15 hours, 14 minutes and four seconds.

The event is free for anyone to take part in but participants must register beforehand.

Other parkrun events are held in the surrounding Black Country and Staffordshire area, with locations at Walsall Arboretum, Cannock Chase, Wolverhampton, Sandwell Valley and Dudley.
