Motorcyclist dies after M6 crash

A motorcyclist has died after a crash on the M6 in Staffordshire.

The 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene on Junction 16, near Newcastle-under-Lyme, yesterday, according to Staffordshire Police.

A police spokesman said: "Central motorway police officers along with West Midlands Ambulance were called to an incident on Junction 16 of M6 northbound yesterday following a road traffic incident involving a motorcyclist, there were no other vehicles involved.

"Sadly a 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification is yet to take place.

"We would kindly urge people to respect the family’s privacy and not to speculate as to his identity or the circumstances of the incident."

Two hours of traffic delays were reported after the crash, with queues as far as Stafford, as the road was closed for about four hours.
