Boy, 8, shot in head with air rifle at Dartmouth Park

A young boy was shot in the head with an air rifle while playing in a park in West Bromwich.

The eight-year-old was with his family in Dartmouth Park, in Reform Street, when he was hit in the head.

He was taken to hospital and doctors believe his injuries were consistent with those caused by a rifle or pellet gun.

West Midlands Police say although his injuries were not life threatening, it could have been "very serious" for the young boy.

The shooting happened at around 5pm on May 29.

Police spokeswoman Deb Edmonds said: "He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which doctors believe were consistent with that of a rifle or pellet gun injury.

"Fortunately, his injuries were not life threatening, however this could have been very serious."
