20 firefighters deal with skip blaze at Wednesbury waste centre

Four fire engines were needed when a skip caught fire at an industrial estate in Wednesbury.

Almost 20 firefighters dealt with the blaze at a waste treatment centre on Potters Lane this morning.

They received a 999 call at 10.19am and spent the next three hours extinguishing the flames.

West Midlands Fire Service advised local residents to keep their windows and doors shut while they dealt with the incident.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "Four fire engines, from Tipton, Walsall, West Bromwich and Bilston were at the scene, with 19 firefighters in total.

"It was a small fire where rags and calcium oxide bags at caught fire.

"We advised people to keep their doors and windows shut as a precaution at the time.

"It was all extinguished by 1pm."

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
