The classes take place across the country and give pupils like Dylan an opportunity to try a new instrument

Pupils at St Martin's C Of E Primary School in Tipton were treated to a master class from Jeff Rich, who played for Status Quo between 1985 and 2000.

Headteacher Sarah Bott said: "It's rare that we can afford to do something like this, but we thought 'why not?'. It's not just all about literacy and numeracy at this school and we want to also celebrate the skills of artistic people like Jeff."

Rich gave a brief history of the drum to more than 180 pupils, then got volunteers to play instruments he'd brought along.

He also gave a demonstration of how he plays the drums, with classes playing along on various percussion instruments, such as Djembe drums, tambourines and wood blocks.
