Man dies after being hit by train in Smethwick

A man has died after being hit by a train in Smethwick.

Emergency services were called to Smethwick Rolfe Street station shortly after 8pm on Saturday evening following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a train.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, a British Transport Police spokesman confirmed on Monday

"Officers were called to Smethwick station shortly after 8pm on Saturday night following reports of a casualty on the tracks," the spokesman said.

"Paramedics also attended but sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called to reports of a collision between a train and a pedestrian at Rolfe Street train station at 8.09pm on Saturday night.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who had been seriously injured in the collision.

"Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"One ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car and the trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene.”
