An empty shop unit on a busy Smethwick street could be converted into a craft ale pub if planners give the green light.

There could be a craft ale pub in Sandwell

Sandwell Council planners have received an application from Green Room Properties Limited to convert the premises on Bearwood Road into a bar.

The application said that the new pub would provide a huge boost to the area, create new jobs and bring a disused shop back into use.

The proposal is currently being considered by Sandwell Council’s planners and a decision will be made in the coming weeks.

Agents Peacock and Smith said: "This would breathe new life and activity into this fragile and decaying part of Bearwood town centre and have a positive impact on its vitality and viability.

"It would make a significant contribution to the centre’s offer by increasing consumer choice.

"It would generate new jobs – part-time and full-time – which, in turn, would have economic and social benefits in the local area."
